Cambree had her first dentist appointment today, mainly because I was due for a 6-month cleaning and check and Cambree decided last minute that she wanted her teeth cleaned too! But here’s our interesting story…
Cambree had been having not the best day.. She had been fussy all morning and getting in trouble more than usual. She cried all the way to the dentist and said she wanted her Daddy.. and was sniffing back tears and sobs. And she was super shy at the dentist’s office until they brought out a basket of toys.. which Cambree loved. So she played with the toys the entire time I had my teeth cleaned. Then she wanted HER teeth done.
The hygenist said she had time so she went & got a dental tray for kids and came back & asked Cambree if she wanted Chocolate, Strawberry, or Vanilla paste.. Cambree picked chocolate. Well, she counted all of Cambree’s teeth and then started the polishing with the chocolate and Cambree gagged. So she rinsed out her mouth with water & asked asked Cambree if she wanted to try another flavor.. Cambree picked strawberry… This time she didn’t like it either and she gagged even harder. So once again, she rinsed out her mouth and they tried mint flavor. And that set her off.. She had had one too many gags and she threw up a little bit. Thankfully, mostly on the napkin bib thing. THEN Cambree decided she was DONE. She wanted nothing to do with it! The hygenist rinsed her out again and Cambree said “I like that water!!” and then she went right over and took a drink of her Gatorade I had taken. LOL. So much for clean teeth!
Cambree played until the dentist had checked out my teeth – and then we tried to let the dentist look over Cambree’s teeth.. But after the gags and puking, Cambree decided that was NOT much fun and she was over it! Cambree still got to pick something out of the treasure box… little stinker. Kids always win!
The hygenist and the dentist were both happy with Cambree’s progress, being that she’d never been there before.. so I guess it was worth it.. but a word to the wise. Next time, I’ll take extra clothes inside with me (rather than in the car) and a bottle of water!
